Thursday Thirteen #3

Thirteen Things I did as a child

1…Jacks. Remember that game? I used to play on the kitchen floor of my house
with my sisters.

2...Put peanuts in my Pepsi. Yum! I think I'll do that tomorrow, now that I've
remembered it ;)

3...Sang at flea markets. My brother, who is two years older than me, would break
out his little acoustic guitar and I would just stand there and sing! I wasn't shy in
those days :)

4...Put the foil from gum on my teeth and pretended I had braces. Yeah, I know. But
I was really young! We do stupid things when we're kids ;)

5...Had a pet goose

6...Vowed that when I grew up, I would eat ice cream and candy and potato chips
every single day!

7...Received a locket for Christmas from my third grade teacher.

8...Stole my mom's copy of Helter Skelter and read it. Then wished I hadn't.

9...Wrote my first story about some kid who spit toothpaste out of her mouth when
someone said something funny. That's all I remember about that story!

10..Was sure that if I concentrated hard enough, I would discover that I had
magical powers ;)

11..Learned to use crutches

12..Started smoking. I was thirteen, and it took me a long, long time to finally quit!

13..Walked in my sleep. Luckily, I stopped!:)

One thing I remember doing when I was a child was sharing a 10 oz Coke with my younger brother. Seriously, I shared a 10 oz beverage. Why can I now down a 12 oz soda in about 2 swallows.

Never heard of peanuts in Pepsi before. But I was a jacks champ in my neighborhood. :-)

I used to stay up until 3am with a flashlight under the blankets to read Harlequin romances.

Jiminy! Jennifer! you crack me up. I did the same but holy hell, I never found anything good like that to read.

I remembering pretending to be a spy and playing with the boys alot. I was an psuedo tom-boy. Meaning, I liked the boys and so wanted to play with them...in order to..hmmm, have an in. ;-)

my favorite belden books were the ones where trixie got into trouble and Jim came to save the day. I mean, how telling is that? LOL

I loved playing Jacks. And I was a killer at marbles! I wish I remembered all the rules because I'd love to teach my girls how to play.

And good for you on quitting!

Peanut in your pepsi? =) I've got to try that. I'd never heard it before. LOL! You sound like a very mischievous little girl, hehe.

Elle Fredrix said...

LOL. 2 Questions. Do you eat ice cream/potato chips everyday, and do you have magic powers?

Debbie Mumford said...

You mean you don't have magic powers? Oh, come on now! You're the goddess of all the worlds you create. How much more magical can you get? *g*

Savannah Chase said...

Never heard anyone tossing nuts into coke...must try it out.....

Nice list...

Great List. Isn't it sad when children lose that magic? You know you could do it then, we all could, we just forget. (smile). I hope my kids keep doing silly things and never lose thier magic (okay except for reading books like HS....not good)

Great list. I used to sneak my Mom's Harlequine Romances and read them under the front porch LOL
Happy T13!

I know what you mean, Lia :)
I drink a lot of pop, so I'm just glad I drink diet:)
I used to drink pepsi, but now it's only diet coke. I still think I might try a diet pepsi today:)Thanks for stopping by!

Hi, Gina!
I tried the milk and Pepsi like Laverne did, but didn't like that so much. But peanuts in Pepsi...goood! I'm not sure why ;)

Paige Tyler said...

Great list! I totally remember jacks!

Wow, peanuts in Pepsi...how on earth did you ever come up with that combo, Jane? LOL I'm thinking I'll take a pass.

Tried the ice cream, candy and potato chips thing--and now I wear the results on my hips. :-0

I smiled at the part about singing at the flea market. I was such a big ham as a kid (okay, still am--LOL)and I lived for excuses to entertain.

I used to sneak my mom's Victoria Holt books and read them.

Great TT! :-D

Jane said...

Hi Jennifer! :)
I used to sneak Harlequins too, but only because I wasn't allowed to read such 'trash' haha! Which of course made me want to read them even more;)

Jane said...

Hi Seeley! I kinda am, too ;)

Jane said...

Hi Morgan! Thanks for stopping by:)
I remember reading something about these boxcar kid runaways who had to share a slice of bread, or something like that...

Jane said...

Hi Red!
I think I got mischievous as I got older ;)

Jane said...

Hi Elle!
Haha:) No, I don't eat those things every day, though I might like to! And for the magical powers, I'm still working on that ;) I used to think that if I twirled around fast enough, I'd become Wonder Woman. Boy, did I have some dizzy times:)

Jane said...

Hey Debbie! You've got a point there!
We are magical, aren't we! :)

Jane said...

Hi Moondancer:)
I hope there's still a little magic left in all of us:)

Jane said...

Hi Daisy!! Great to see you:)
We sure do some pretty funny things as kids, don't we?;) I remember Victoria Holt books!

Heather said...

Glad to hear you no longer do 12 or 13. My younger sister used to talk in her sleep, resulting in some of the funniest conversations I ever had. *g*

(And like Morgan, I LOVED the Trixie Belden books--still have all mine.)

Marie said...

I remember the gum wrappers on my teeth...and now I'm 33 and really do have braces and wish I could finally be done with them. It's been five years already!

One of my favorite memories was having rubberband wars with my sisters. We had a paper route and got all the rubberbands we could ever use!

Jane said...

Hey Heather!
I do still talk in my sleep, but I don't think anyone ever understands what I'm saying:) Thanks for stopping by!

Jane said...

I'm glad I wasn't the only one, Marie!:) You should do a 'what I did as a child' list. I'd like to see that one!:)

Ember Case said...

Oh, man, great memories. You had me at jacks - I still remember the gray palms from playing on the linoleum floor of the laundry room in grandma's house. And the black palms from playing on the linoleum floor at grandpa's house >G<.

Jane said...

Hi Ember! I remember the dirty hands too, haha:) And accidentally jabbing one of those sharp metal jacks into my hand! That part wasn't so fun ;) All this talking about it makes me want to go buy some and play again, though :)

Robin L. Rotham said...

Ick on peanuts in Pepsi! But my sister and I did the jacks and the foil braces. :D

Jane said...

Hey Robin!
Yay, more foil braces! Maybe I was more normal than I thought, haha:)
I think everyone should try a pepsi soaked peanut at least once ;)
